Asacol Suppositories contain the active substance "Mesalazine", also known as 5-aminosalicylic acid. It is an anti-inflammatory drug prescribed for treating ulcerative colitis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the colon and rectum. Symptoms of ulcerative colitis may include rectal bleeding, frequent diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The suppositories act locally in the rectum to reduce inflammation and can also help prevent further episodes (flares) of ulcerative colitis. They are particularly effective when symptoms affect the rectum.
